Transverse (adj. "situated, arranged, or acting in a crosswise manner") Markings (n. "observations") provides one person's theological commentary on matters divine and human. This Christian theological daybook, partly inspired by Dag Hammarskjöld's famous journal, periodically shares brief pensees or observations in "a crosswise manner." I guess a picture really does say a thousand words.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dr. Becker, for your strong stand in support of women's ordination, gay and lesbian ordination and same sex unions. You are a real bright spot in an otherwise dark LCMS world.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your heart is so filled with hater and anger that you can not love everyone, no matter how they want to gender identify and express love to another human being. God loves all people, you should too.
ReplyDeleteA lot of us respect and admire Dr. Becker for standing up for us and making clear that we in the LGBTQ community are children of God and that our loving unions are gifts from God.
I'm not filled with hate. Unlike Dr. Becker I'm just not willing to compromise the clear expressions of scripture concerning love sex and morality and capitulate to the sinful will of deluded people, in short I love you without the cowardice necessary to affirm your disgusting behavior. I love you enough to plead with you to conform your life and lifestyle choices to the testimonies of divine scripture to stop harming yourself and your neighbor.
ReplyDeleteTerry, unlike you Dr. Becker is open-minded and progressive. He opens his heart and mind to the LBGTQ community and assures us homosexuality is not sinful, it is a gift from God blessed by Him and our unions are not sin. He has stood up for our right NOT to be labelled as "deluded" or "disgusting" and is not declaring our behaviors harmful. He has rejected the positions of the Missouri Synod and has paid the price for it.
DeleteI pray for your loveless and hateful soul.

At the cost of the truth of scripture.. He's betrayed God to accomodate sinful behavior
DeleteTerry, how can you attack a faithful servant of God like Dr. Becker? He has studied carefully and knows that what the Bible says about homosexuality does not apply to our modern day. These writings reflect the ethics of the time, but we have changed and have come to realize that homosexuality is a natural part of what it means to be human for many people. How can you condemn what God has created and blessed?
DeleteI admire how Dr. Becker has stood up for us in the LBTQ community, against the legalism of people like you and The LCMS.

All Dr Becker can do is attempt vainly to explain away the texts that condemn homosexuality. The institute of heterosexual marriage is an ordinance for all time and is the only biblical understanding of marriage. As confirmed by Christ himself. Whereas homosexuality is condemned as a sinful vice in both old and new testament. Dr Becker has forsaken "sola scriptura" and imposed his own shallow and baseless hermeneutic so as to appease the homosexual community. If God created homosexuality why does he condemn it in multiple places? Why does it not work in facilitating the purpose of marriage? Which is producing offspring. Answer God didn't create homosexuality it's a result of the falleness of man and is the embodiment of man's depravity stated severely by St. Paul in Romans 1. Dr. Becker had sadly abandoned Lutheranism and Christianity because he wants to appease and give approval to those who practice lawlessness
DeleteI wanted to add my comment in defense of Matthew Becker as well. My partner and I are in a loving committed relationship. Becker's courageous stand on behalf of people like us has been very encouraging and I'm happy is now a part of our ELCA church. We need more compassionate, open-minded, progressive theologians like him.
