An Interview

Earlier this year I was interviewed by the Rev. Gina Pond, who operates a podcast called "This Week in Heresy." She recently let me know that the interview is now available online.

The whole interview runs about an hour or so.

It can be found here.

  2. Dr. Becker, I listened to the interview and, unless I mis-heard a part of it, I thought I heard you refer to the Holy Spirit as "She." Did I hear that correctly? If so, how do you support that Biblically?

    1. Ruach is a Hebrew feminine noun that means "breath," "wind," or "spirit." In more than 70 places in the Bible this term refers to the Spirit of God (e.g., 1 Sam. 10.5-6). Several of these passages are classic sedes doctrinae for the Holy Spirit. See also the biblical passages that refer to the divine Sophia ("wisdom," feminine noun in LXX), often in connection with the work of the divine Ruach. When referring to God's Holy Ruach as a third person singular pronoun, the word "she" is perfectly acceptable and accurate.
